The climate needs more circular material flows

During the climate week in New York 2021, one of the world's largest virtual climate conferences "Exponential Climate Action Summit III" was organised. A nearly six-hour long conference where Ragn-Sells was the main sponsor.

- If we are serious about creating a sustainable society, we have to exponentially increase the reuse of detoxified resources. Therefore, I am glad that the almost 6-hour long broadcast confirms the essential need to create circular material flows, says Pär Larshans, Head of Sustainability at Ragn-Sells and one of the keynote speakers at the event.

During the event, Pär Larshans was supported by several different parties. Anders Wijkman, an opinion leader in circular economy, mentioned, among other things, the importance of rethinking our consumption. Johan Rockström, director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, emphasised that we will not succeed in keeping our CO2 budget if we don’t create circular material flows. The founder of one of the organisers, We Don’t Have Time, Ingmar Rentzhog highlighted the importance of circularity in a low-carbon world and the risk that we will soon be without materials, so even sand.

During the broadcast, more than 8 million viewers got to see several large companies, organisations, researchers, and politicians in their work towards a more circular and sustainable society. Divided into different value chains, experts and representatives from the business community highlighted what needs to be done in different segments, such as when building new houses, transporting, at work, the food we eat, and the clothes we wear (or don’t wear).

The Exponential Climate Action Summit was organised by We Don’t Have Time, Ericsson and the Exponential Roadmap Initiative. In the third Exponential Climate Action Summit held on 23 September 2021, the theme was "Circularity and The Race to Zero" and Ragn-Sells was the main sponsor.
